HND Year 1 & Year 2
Makeup Artistry for TV and FIlm

Silicone Making
The silicone prosthetics are made in a long step by step process.
-
I build the shape of prosthetics by using Chavant clay, I do the basic shape by cutting up into smaller balls, then smooth it, adding in texture, special designs like teeth and cuts,
-
when I'm happy with my design I will make a wall around to prevent spill, I make it into a permanent mould by pouring cheap silicone over it.
-
When I need to use the product I will use Baldez plastic to make fake skin and pour Platsil 25 silicone in middle, topping it with another few layers of fake skin.
Crepe Hair( False Hair)
In some movie productions false hair is needed to add for example as facial hair, eyebrows or extensions to help bring an actor more to their character. I used crepe hair and spirit gum and slowly build up layer by layer. To finish off I trimmed off excess and fluffed it with barbering scissors

Wig making
It is important for theatres and film productions to understand how to block, wash, make and maintain wigs. A look isn't complete without hair being styled and involved, so it's essential to understand the theory behind hair and wig making for future productions.
I had done wig settings for 20s, 40s, 60s, 80s styling.
I also had done 18th and 19th century hair styling with help of wig cages, synthetic and human wigs.
Costume Design
Although not necessary for the course, I took matters in my own hands on certain makeup looks and designed costumes to fit the overall look.
For example I bought a 40s style dress from a charity shop and added sweet ornaments onto it by fabric glue taking inspiration from Katy Perry's concert dress for California Girls.
It was for my Avant Garde mixed with vintage style so I mixed a 40s style into a sweet theme.

Life Casting
I had wonderful experience to do Life Casting for latex mask making.
-
Prep station with safety precautions like cover up actor in sheet
-
Cover actor in Vaseline
-
Mix water and alginate to be poured onto actors face
-
Apply plastering bandages by dampening and apply
-
Once hardened remove safely
-
Mix plastering and water and pour into the cast
-
Remove slowly

Graded Unit
Both years I had multiple choices on a brief so I picked SFX twice as I'm passionate on making to horror style of movies. Both years I had to create the silicone pieces myself and plan a whole shoot and filming around the piece. First year I done a gunshot wound on a soldier and second time was a zombie which I focused on a jaw.
